Edina Publishers is a new small press whose goal is to publish diverse, inclusive adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction in print, ebook, and (eventually!) audiobook formats.
We're committed to creating a positive impact not just on the LGBTQIA+ community, but on the world by making it a safer and more welcoming space for everyone. The physically diverse and queer books that we accept are not to fill any quota; it is our entire focus.
Our team of editors is dedicated to helping our authors to write the best book they possibly can. Through developmental edits, copyedits, and proofreading, we aim to help our authors produce their best work.
Co-founders America and Julia both came from orthodox Christian households that adamantly taught that being gay was a sin next to murder (no joke!) They are both late-in-life-lesbians and came out of the closet while simultaneously coming out of their religion. Once out, they quickly discovered that there was a shortage of LGBTQIA+ representation in books and are working to fill that gap.
While it is true that publishing companies do publish queer books (thank goodness!) it isn't enough! The biggest focus of Edina Publishers is to normalize LGBTQIA+ individuals in literature to help encourage the type of world that we (and so many others) want to live in.
America Marvel (she/her) is the President and Publisher of Edina Publishers. She has been writing stories since she was a kid. She has a Bachelor's from a religious university in Idaho, where she studied photography, horticulture, and how to get married. It was there that she met her future partner, Julia Sanders. She now enjoys reading LGBTQ+ romances, a lot of nonfiction, and hanging out with her dogs. She is currently working on her debut novel, a historical fiction called Viking's Daughter.
Samantha Nimmo (she/they) is a Scottish mum, writer and editor. She has a BA (Hons) in English Studies and an MLitt in Creative Writing, as well as being the recipient of two writing awards.
Alongside working with Edina, Sam is a freelance developmental editor, writing coach and ghostwriter. Across all services, they specialize in fantasy, paranormal, romance, and queer fiction. Being neurodivergent and disabled, Sam is passionate about representation in literature and loves getting the chance to work with authors who are as excited about queer, diverse books as she is.
Sam can be contacted at samnimmoediting@gmail.com.
Tove Innis (they/them) is a Georgia-born, New York-raised word nerd and hardcore descriptivist. As a disabled and neurodivergent human, they're passionate about accessibility and inclusion in both digital and analog spaces. They love naps, plants, tattoos, and sweet tea. You can find out more about their other work at Grimalkin Creative.
Adrianna Schow (she/her) has been married to a man for eleven years. She studied Business Management and music, but English was her favorite class. She is a connoisseur of crafts, including soapmaking, watercolor, and sewing. She runs Marvel Photography.
Ilana Weitz (she/her) has been an avid reader and writer since elementary school, when she used to stay up all night to finish the newest Goosebumps or Animorphs release by flashlight. She studied Communication and Public Administration and has worked for various nonprofits. Experienced in editing everything from academic journal articles to press releases, Ilana branched out to editing her first fiction novel in 2022. When she’s not lost in a book or working on her own stories, she can be found playing with her dog, Pippin (she’s a huge Lord of the Rings fan), running, or working on Culture Jumpers, a podcast she co-creates with her husband.
Cait Tyler (she/her) is a lifelong learner with a knack for words and a passion for the stories that stem from them. She has a BA from the University of Cape Town, with majors in Philosophy, English Language & Literature, and Religious Studies, as well as a postgraduate degree in Literary Studies. When she’s not editing and writing, she is involved in a South African gaming startup called FLOWSTATE. Cait also adores zombie movies but would be one of the first people to die in an apocalypse.
Jess King (she/her) has been writing and editing her whole life, and jumped at the chance to make it a professional endeavour when she entered the workforce. She is passionate about helping writers reach their full potential and crafting documents to perfection. Outside of work, Jess is an avid writer and always working on a novel—usually with a cat in her lap! She can be found on Twitter @jesskingwrites.
Kate Koehler-Platten (they/them) is a queer nonbinary middle-aged human pursuing their most authentic (and therefore best) life. They believe that authenticity and bravery go hand in hand. They have a double major degree in Psychology and Theatre and a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and experience proofing audiobooks. They love to read, plan and host themed birthday parties and personalized escape rooms, hang out with their teenagers, listen to people’s stories, and connect with the queer community. They were a theatre kid growing up and love all kinds of performances. What it all comes down to is that they love stories in all forms.
